If done right, microdosing supports clarity, creativity & inner discovery.
When I started to microdose, I remember I was so curious & excited with the journey and the outcome it could provide. As a first-timer, I was also a bit uncertain if I was doing it right and what to notice or expect — it was an adventure! 🤭
Today I bring you some top tips from what I learned about microdosing truffles through SHYFT, what has supported me the most & my best advise for those tipping their toes for the first time on this journey.
Hope you enjoy
1) Start with Intention
Why do you want to Microdose?
Is it because you see everyone around you doing it and you’re curious to give it a try? Or because you really want to change the way you react to certain things? Or you heard it can bring you even more creativity for your projects?
For me, when I started I had no real intention and I see how that compromised my gains of the practice.
No matter which intention you have, it is important to know that you have one. Starting with intention is the first essential step to get the most of the microdosing experience. When we know what we want to achieve, when we have a goal and a direction, it is much easier to then take the steps to reach it.
So, what’s your intention?

2) Make time to Feel
I need to highlight this:
When you’re a first timer it’s so beneficial to put some time aside for your first encounter with the practice. Especially if you’re a bit unsure, having this time and space to sit with it is best than having a crazy busy day where you have to manage something new.
Remember, microdosing is a practice that is subperceptual – this means, you’re not going to notice it at all, since it works beyond your awareness. But, as many first times, it can make us nervous or even a bit scared to start so having time to feel these emotions and cater to our comfort is important.
I definitely overlooked this when I started, I was on the “Go, go, go” and not prioritizing time to feel and notice. It’s crucial to make time for ourselves & these unsure parts. I promise the positive ripple effect later on will be worth it, because you’re worth it.
3) Schedule it
As much as it is important to make time to feel, it’s also utterly important to have a plan so we don’t miss days & compromise the practice.
For this, you need to first choose a starting date and the best protocol for you.
After you take those decisions, my best advice is to mark on your calendar the days that you’ll be microdosing. You can also do this by setting alarms on your phone to remind you. Whatever you prefer and suits you the best, just make sure it works.
4) Journal your shyft
Reflecting daily on your practice can, overtime, help you build a roadmap of your journey. From where you started, the very beginning & the intention or goal you choose to commit. To then be able to realise what has changed, how you have changed and transformed in this period of time.
It is also known that journaling is a helpful practice to calm & cleanse your mind, since you can just put everything on paper and let it out of your system. This is what it did for me when I started to dive into it, it helped me to let go of repetitive thoughts & understand patterns + fears.
I advise journaling either in the evening, as a way to wind down and reflect about how your day was. Or in the morning, to reflect upon the previous day.
I assure you that you’ll be happy to have something to look back to and see the progress you’ve made. To support you, here’s a little journaling idea:

5) Have a scale
This is a crucial indispensable step. You need a scale to be able to measure your dose, without it, you could end up consuming a large dose, that is far after your sweet spot. Learn about your sweet spot here.
If you already have a scale, make sure it is one that has a high accuracy with a range between 0.01 to 100g. If you do need one, you can buy it here.
6) Swallow, don’t chew
If you’re microdosing for the first time, I advise you to swallow your truffles rather than chewing, for 2 reasons:
- Swallowing your truffles makes the psychoactive compounds release slower and creates a time-release effect. This means that the psilocybin will release in your system in smaller amounts over a extended period of time.
- You also avoid the taste being a barrier. Many people don’t enjoy the taste of the truffles, so swallowing them avoids the possibility entirely.
- If swallowing or chewing isn’t for you, try making a tea with your dose. Brewing truffle tea will extract the psilocybin, so you’ll still experience all the benefits and subtle effects, just as if you were consuming it directly.
With this, it’s important to affirm that chewing is not a problem at all if you prefer & enjoy the taste. This is just a suggestion based on my experience.
Remember, this is a journey
And as in any journey, roadblocks and challenges will appear, it will not be linear. And that’s okay, because what matters is the tools we have to be able to deal with these challenges. As well as remembering that the challenges are part of our growth.
With this blog, my aim is to give you my personal best supportive tips so you can not only start to microdose but also feel extra confident in it. If you want to have more practical scientific information on the subject, you can find it here or in the package of your microdosing kit. Enjoy!
