Every journey begins with a first step. Follow these guidelines to properly prepare your journey:
1) Choose a start date;
2) Set your intention;
3) Select the preferred protocol for your personal microdosing journey;
4) Choose a start dose, start microdosing and adjust the dose as desired;
5) Schedule time for self reflection and journaling along the way.
These topics are explained in detail in our Microdosing Manual. You’ll receive a free download link with all microdosing products.
Please note: one of the most important steps in learning how to microdose, is accurately measuring how much you take. For this purpose you can use an electric microscale that can measure in 0.01 gram units. These are available in our shop. In case you don’t have a suitable scale yet, you can find it here: DJ-100 microscale.
A ‘normal’ dose for microdosing with fresh truffles is between the 0.5 and 2.0 gram (1/2 to 2 portions of SHYFT microdosing truffles). However, in the beginning, we recommend taking a low dose of 0.3 to 0.6 gram and gradually built up every next microdosing day with 0.1 gram in order to discover your own so called ‘sweet spot’.
To match your goals with the right effect of your microdosing journey, it’s important to choose the correct route. We call these routes, protocols. Choose the protocol which is most compatible with your specific goals. Nowadays, there are several scientifically examined protocols that can guide you during your microdosing practice. You’ll find the details of these routes further down. Which road suits you best?
The most common schedule to follow is called the James Fadiman protocol.
Psychologist and writer Dr. James Fadiman has been researching psychedelics intensively since the sixties. His protocol recommends taking a microdose every three days. This is a go-to protocol for beginners.
This protocol is developed by the Microdosing Institute in cooperation with James Fadiman and has been proven to be more beneficial for people who microdose for medical purposes to help them ease the effects of conditions such as depression, ADHD, ADD, (social) anxiety, migraines or cluster headaches.
A challenge of the Fadiman protocol is having continuously changing days of the week as microdosing days. Some people might benefit from a fixed day schedule, where you can choose two fixed weekdays (that are best for your own schedule) to microdose—for example Monday and Friday.
Combining multiple substances is called ‘stacking’. According to the research of Paul Stamets, this combination of ingredients has a positive and lasting effect on the behaviour and growth of brain cells (neuroplasticity).
In this protocol you combine microdosing of psilocybin with Lion’s Mane and Vitamin B3/Niacin. This stacking method works best when you keep a ‘4 days on, 3 days off’ schedule. On the pause days, you can continue taking Lion’s Mane.
These doses can be taken:
Some might become tired while microdosing psilocybin at the start of their day. If this is the case for you, know that it is also possible to enjoy the benefits of psilocybin when taking truffles before bedtime and enjoy a good night’s sleep at the same time. For this protocol it’s recommended to take your dose every other day, at least one hour to a few hours before you hit the hay. When following the nightcap protocol, you might get vivid dreams and feel well-rested with a clear mind when you wake up in the morning.
You can combine the Nightcap protocol with the ‘every other day’ or the Fadiman protocol.
The name gives it away already; you intuitively decide when you want to microdose with this protocol. The only important rule is leaving at least one day between microdosing days. This is because you have built up some tolerance to the active substance in the truffles on the day right after your microdosing day, the transition day. Therefore, taking a dose on that day is much less effective. After the Fadiman protocol, it is usual to switch to a more intuitive way of microdosing. Within this protocol you use microdosing when it suits you, or when you feel like it.
